Happy Saturday!

Happy Saturday Everyone...

Just wanted to post this lil video up....

I've always noticed that on one particular block near Times Square there's always strange characters hanging out around Red Lobster...

and by characters I mean cartoon muppet type of characters...

It's the weirdest thing to walk down the block and see Elmo, Dora, and Mickey Mouse just hanging out waiting for people to take pictures with them...

I tried to record the characters and not seem so obvious because I would have to pay them :-/

And why are they standing in front of Red Lobster?... This doesn't happen in front of Ruby Tuesdays, or Apple bee's, or TGIFriday's... arghhh... anyways check out this video... I'm so obvious it's hilarious....lol!!

And the aluminum man at the end is a special treat...

Memorial Weekend Memories ... Part 2

My Memorial Day Weekend story continues....

On Saturday... I got invited to a friends bbq in Far Rockaway Queens. This wasn't just any ordinary bbq... this was a time to enjoy old friends and break the routine. My friends and I usually meet up in the city after work, and we are usually tired from a long day and just on a mission to spend a few hours then go home and rest. Even though,,, it was a lil hard for some to get to the bbq because certain trains weren't running, but it was worth it because we actually got to sit outside, share stories, dance, bond, eat delicious burgers and just laugh (something we haven't done in a while).

This bbq was not just for Memorial Day but a graduation celebration. My friend Jennifer graduated from Stony Brook University.... a school that I would visit every other weekend....I'd usually visit just to have fun, get out of the city and clear my mind from work, school, bad relationships, and other mood blockers.

I did not attend or graduate from SBU but I can defiantly say that my visits to "The Brook" enhanced my overall college experience.

*Cheers to good friends... and old memories....

Then ..... on Sunday....

I got invited to a roof top bbq by the awesomest DJ Twrexx and graff master Cortesnyc..... it was a friend of a friend's bbq.

This bbq was a change from Saturday's ... this time I was on a roof with 2 down ass friends and others that I've met here and there but never really hung out with ... there was a lot of beer,,, cigar smoking,,, and cool times.

Memorial Weekend Memories ... Part 2 from Tameeka Ballance on Vimeo.

This rooftop was in Greenpoint Brooklyn and it faced an amazing view of Manhattan... ahhh this view was to die for ... imagine... sipping on a Corona .... smoking a vanilla flavored cigar .... and watching the sunset over beautiful Manhattan .... just blissful ...
(I'm a sucker for sunsets....)

*Cheers to new friends .... new possibilities .... and more sunsets

On Monday.... I finished putting together a video with Cortesnyc. Earlier this year he participated in a graffiti all star tour in Puerto Rico. The footage is dope and I'm really happy with the out come of this graff video. The tour lasted a few days and with all this footage Cortes decided to break up the videos into a 6 part series. Check out Cortesnyc's PR Graff Tour Part 1:

Finally, later that evening I went to see Star Trek.... I really enjoyed it... I kept hearing that it was a fun movie to watch... and I totally agree... there were scenes that had me on the edge of seat.... I am in no way a fan of the show or the old movies but this one was very entertaining.

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend.

Memorial Weekend Memories ... Part 1

This past weekend... I had a blast... I know a lot of people went out of town for Memorial Day Weekend (hmmm.. day weekend...lol) but I did not!!

I stayed in the city and had such a great time.

Starting off with Friday night... I had a blast at my first ever Rooftop Film experience... I had the pleasure of going with my some special peeps... not to mention, Blogger Extraordinaire Patrice and Super Incredible Photographer Jerome aka Newsy. (They both are featured on my favorite podcast Keith and The Girl).

Rooftop films summer series is like drive in movies without the cars, plenty of blankets, amazing roof top spaces and a bunch of underground short films.

This event was held on the Open Road Rooftop above New Design High School, the same place I filmed Cortesnyc painting about 3 weeks ago... that place is amazing and filled with top name graffiti artists.

Last Friday's Film theme was "Romance". My three favorite shorts of the night were:

Runar Runarsson's film 2 Birds - a story of 2 young kids getting way over their heads at a mature party...sex, drugs, and no rock'n'roll...

Jessica Yu's film The Kinda Sutra - a cute 8 minute doc that told different stories of how people learned about sex and where babies came from...

and....

Jill Orshel's film Sister Wife - an interesting 10 minute documentary about the life of a polygamist woman who shares a husband with her biological sister.

I really enjoyed Sister Wife because of the controversial storyline and my recent obsession with the HBO series Big Love...

I really recommend everyone going to at least one of these rooftop film events. It's cheap, you get to see a number of amazing short films, their rooftop locations are refreshing, and there are so many people to meet at these events.

I believe that this festival will be going on until the end of June.. but check out the website for more info... Rooftop Films

And...... after all was said and done,,, Patrice introduced Jerome and I to Momofuku's Milk Bar.... we got sour gummy flavored ice cream.... it was simply delicious.

*Tomorrow I will be posting Memorial Weekend Memories ... Part 2 ...
stay tuned kiddies

Walking Canvases

A few nights back I got invited to an event in the Lower East Side called "Walking Canvases" - I was invited by an amazing, talented, artist named John Smalls ... check him out.... he was one of a few artists live painting that night.

The rules for this rockin' art party scene was to wear a white shirt and get drawn on by some of the artist.

I was not brave enough to wear a white shirt but I definitely got some footage and great photos from that night. Cortesnyc was also there amongst the crowd creating some wearable art.

Oh.....Keyboard Cat....

For a few weeks I've noticed that this "play him off, keyboard cat" became a big craze on the internet.

Someone on facebook posted a few videos but I didn't pay any attention to them until I saw this particular video.

The screen grab was of Spiderman... and I thought "heyyy I'll see what this is about..."

I can not imagine what I'd do if I was at this kids birthday party....

Basically, "Play him off, keyboard cat" is a compilation of random video clips containing awkward situations (that normally would not be funny) and added a light hearted keyboard playing cat at the end of each video... here's another

Viva Patshiva: A Must See

Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of going to see Viva Patshiva.

First, Viva Patshiva means "Long Live The Party!"....
(who doesn't like to party)

Secondly, Viva Patshiva is a Gypsy Rock Opera....
(Awesome!!)

And, finally if you have free time this weekend be sure to check out the show! This week sadly marks the end of their performances but it's so much fun and so worth seeing!

It's not your typical opera! The cast makes you laugh, cry, and get out of seats!

I really had a ball just watching the gypsies dance!

I was extremely impressed by one of the stars of the opera; Chemda Khalili.

*Note: I am not being bias because I listen her podcast Keith and The Girl everyday,,, but its such a different experience watching her act and sing.

She has such a powerful voice. One of her solos made my eyes water.

And the best part of it all is that,,, by the end of the show I danced with the cast, learned a few gypsy steps, had some free beer and wine, and got a whole new outlook on Gypsy Rock!

Here's the info if anyone wants to check it out:
(It's worth the experience)

Also, check out this video clip from the show (I had to show them a lil "Tameeka Time" that night)

To the old times.....

On a quiet Thursday night I sat at my computer going through blogs and struggling with my internet service....I decided that a lil Captain Morgan and Greg Laswell's Three Flights From Alto Nido album on repeat would help me through this night....

At around 11pm I don't know why this idea of playing backgammon popped into my head but it did.... so I decided to login onto my 3 year old yahoo account and check out "yahoo games" .... this was such a blast from the past...

back to my "webtv" and Microsoft days....

I would spend so much time battling and chatting with people over Backgammon (one of my favorite games)....

I didn't make it very far... I played 2 games and they both were cut short because I have crappy internet service...

but it was good to do something from the past and it was good to know that the set up was the same and that I still had skills...

I took a few screen grabs...

.....cheers to the old times.....

I was going to post one of my favorite songs by Greg Laswell but I came across this cool stop motion video featuring the song "The one I love". This isn't an official Greg Laswell video but I have so much respect for those who edit and just plain work on stop motion videos, it takes so much time and so much patience...

.....and cheers to the arts also...

The isnort app...

I saw this demo on Gawker.com and it made me a lil peeved....wtf? I know apple makes promises of having any application that people would need but why this one?

The isnort app!

Are we really creating applications like this? Why would I want to pretend to snort coke? Obviously the people who created this app and the one's who are buying it are drug addicts - I hope they all get arrested at some point.

And, I know people are going to compare this to the beer app but it's not the same!
