Happy New Year - Bring it On 2014

Happy New Year!
It's almost 2014!!!!!

This year will be a better year - for both you and me!
I don't know about you but I'm glad to leave 2013 behind. It was a life changing year for me personally and professionally. Luckily, both of those aspects of my life have changed for the better and I'm actually happy with every decision I made last year.

The 3 major changes for me were: I obtained a new job in my field after working 6 years for a loyal company, a long term semi-work and personal relationship ended and I moved to a new neighborhood in Queens.

In 6 short months my life changed. At first it scared the crap out of me but I slowly adjusted to my new lifestyle. I realized it was time to leave baggage behind. I made new friends, I traveled, I went on dates - I actually met people in person at events and through dating sites. I stopped being emotionally responsible for others. I danced harder, I laughed more, and I cried a lot. This year has definitely taught me many lessons about life. And I'm happy to end it with some pretty special people.

2013 wasn't all a bad year. There were also some really great things that happened in 2013, for example: The high school student I mentored went off to college, I attended the AICP awards, I danced with SantiGold, my friend Aldo moved to NYC, I had the most fabulous nails this summer, I finally ate at La Esquina & Lure Fishbar, my roommate is my best friend, I went to America's first zoo, I made cupcakes at ButterLane, I went to San Francisco, I danced with a topless DJ, I went apple picking, I discovered that I REALLY love dressing up for Halloween, I saw Wanda Sykes & Kathy Griffin live, I took a road trip to Boston, I went to an aquarium, and met a wonderful young man that I enjoy spending time with.

I never really focus on new year resolutions. But this year I wanted to jot down a few reminders to myself and have something to look forward to and look back on next year :)

I will laugh more.
I will act my age (instead of acting like an old fart).
I will surround myself with ONLY positive people and positive situations.
I will work on my brand again (Tameeka Time).
I will create a bucket list and post it on my blog.
and
I will take better care of my body (internally and externally).

Do you have any semi-resolutions you want to reflect on? If so, comment below. Or if you just want to vent on why 2013 was such a crappy year let me know in the comment section.

Cheers to the New Year and good luck to everyone!

xoxo

The Best Cat Gif ... EVER

I'm a fan of cats.
They are soft.
They are cute yet evil.
They purr really loud when they are happy
and they scratch you just because they feel like it.

Sometimes they sit on your keyboard when you are trying to
type.

And sometimes they tell you to be quiet when you are
talking too damn much.

This may be the best cat gif EVER!!!

Cinderoncé

Some of you pop culture peeps out there may remember Todd Hall from American Idol.
I do remember Todd's name and face because of social media but I have not watched that show since the first few seasons.

Last night on twitter I kept seeing his name being mentioned and when I saw someone tweet: "Cinderonce was amazing" I had to search and see what in the hell they were talking about.

What is Cinderoncé you ask?

It's the most awesome video I've seen this week. It's 8 minutes of magic! 8 minutes of the classic Cinderella story told using various Beyoncé songs

Todrick Hall is one of the brilliant minds behind Cinderoncé.

Get up on this!

Sleepy Monday

I bet this girl had the same crazy weekend that I had.
I hope her weekend was filled with whiskey shots, shirtless DJs, the Meatpacking district, FroYo, dancing in heels, and pizza topped w/ eggs and bacon like my weekend was.

Sleep on sistah! Sleep on!

This Week In Nails | Tameeka Time's Nails

This week I decided to embrace the summer and paint my nails yellow.
I've never owned such a loud color before so I went out and purchased a yellow nail polish.
I expected the color to be a bit brighter. Since it wasn't the ultra bright yellow I wanted I decided to add another color to the mix to make this particular yellow pop, I added white.
The yellow polish is by Maybelline from their "Color Show" line - this color is called "Fierce n Tangy".
The white polish is by B-Touch and it's a simple white #94.
The Maybelline polish paints on thin, I had to add 3 coats of polish to my nails and the B-Touch polish was very thick so I only needed 2 coats.

What do you think? Would you try this polish? Would you try the color combo of yellow and white?

Queen Beyonce's Weave Stuck in a Fan

Here's how one should handle getting their weave caught in a fan.

Step 1: Proceed to ignore what's happening

Step 2: Try to free yourself from the fans pull on your weave

Step 3: Somehow alert your bouncers that your hair is caught in said fan

Step 4: DO NOT FREAK OUT! Because girl....your weave is STILL caught in the damn fan

Step 5: Continue to sing to the crowd.  Do Not Stop Singing

Finally...

Step 6: Be fabulous just like Beyonce and acknowledge  that your weave got caught in a fan while you were performing.

Go on Instagram and post about it. Laugh at the situation. The "beehive" will love it!

Singer Miguel drop kicks girls

Last night, while I was catching up on the season finale's of Scandal and Revenge I scrolled through my twitter feed and saw someone tweet about Miguel drop-kicking a girl at the Billboard Music Awards. I ignored the tweets and didn't think too much of it until I saw this in the morning:

I can not stop laughing and I know it's wrong but damn.... this looks like it should have been apart of a WWE match. I hope those young ladies weren't injured too bad and I hope they get to see a good chiropractor today. The worst part of this whole fiasco is .... Miguel did not plan this jump.

Here's the proof, look at his twitter feed where he mentions getting caught up in the moment. That doesn't sound like a planned jump to me. Does he think he's Usher or NeYo? Miguel needs to take a seat in the corner somewhere and stop landing ass first on girls.

" got caught up in the moment, thank goodness Khyati is okay "

Damn Miguel I guess you won't be jumping off of stages any time soon.

Sleepy Monday's

This is a sleepy monday champion at it's best! We should all take notes of her napping skills. They may come in handy at some point.

1 - Her bag is safely tucked under her feet.
2 - Her hood is on and being used as a pillow.
3 - She's using the pole to keep herself from leaning the opposite way and possibly sleeping on someone.

Talk about skills!
Sleep on my sistah sleep on!

Food | Bare Burger | Quick Review

Earlier today I was looking for a place to brunch in Forest Hills, Queens. There were not too many options for brunch but defiantly a ton lunch spots. I walked by Bare Burger which is a place I've been too a few times when I lived in Astoria, Queens.

Earlier in the week, I did a general yelp search for brunch spots in Forest Hills and Bare Burger did not come up on the list. When I spoke to the hostest she mentioned that a brunch menu was added to this location a few months ago. I was pleased to hear this because this will be a great brunch spot to come to when I'm in Forest Hills.

I did enjoy the food and I do recommend you readers out there to eat at Bare Burger just because they serve organic meat. I'm totally against fast food burgers and if you have a Bare Burger in your area this should definitely be an option. They also have Vegan options available.

My brunch consisted of a delicious mimosa, scrambled eggs, sausage, carrot cake french toast, a fruit cup, and sweet potato w/ parsley and garlic wedges. I've never had carrot cake french toast before. They were moist, delicious, and the raisins were so firm and good. This has now become one of my favorites. The french toast was very sweet just like a dessert, I do not recommend adding syrup to french toast.

**Food Scale: (5 being the greatest and 1 being the least)**

Bare Burger | Forest Hills | 71-49 Austin St. | Queens, NY

Food: 5  (I will definitely return here and have brunch, probably the same dish)
Service: 3  (The waitress didn't know if the carrot cake french toast had coconut in it or not, it does not by the way and when asked her opinion on another dish she didn't give a clear answer. She was very friendly though)
Cleanliness: 5
Price: 4 ($30 - $40 range for 2 people brunch)

Tips On Surviving A Village Voice Food Event: Choice Eats

This year my foodie friend Kelly and I finally scored tickets to Choice Eats.
Choice Eats is a food event hosted by the Village Voice and features over 50 restaurants that are known as New York City's "hidden gems." Last year we tried to get tickets but they were sold out, so this year (our first year attending) we were very excited about going.

We decided to meet up at the 69th Armory on Lexington Ave a half hour before the event started. That was a big mistake! The line went around the building in a complete circle. We waited an hour in the cold to get into the event. Once we were in we were pumped and ready to taste all of the foods the vendors offered.

The tastings I enjoyed were from Banana Leaf, Fanny, Anella, SCRATCHbread, Black Shack Burger, Lucky 777 Chili, Peppa's Jerk Chicken, No. 7, Nom Wah Tea Parlor, Luke's Lobster, Butter & Scotch, Robicelli's, Fay Da Bakery, and my top top favorite: Mexico Lindo. I was so full when I left the event I couldn't even think about food or snacks until the next morning. And the wines and vodka samples that I tried were delicious. This is an event that every New Yorker should experience at least once.

Here are 5 tips on surviving a Village Voice Food Event - Choice Eats:

1 - Come early. (I showed up at the venue a half hour early and ended up losing an hour of the event time. If the event starts at 6:30pm, be on line at 5:30pm.)

2 - Bring a friend. (I stood on one line for a tasting and got 2 servings while Kelly stood on another line for a tasting and got 2 servings. This helped us cut our wait time in half.)

3 - Come hungry. (Be sure to have an empty stomach when you walk in. There will be food every where you turn.)

4 - Dress comfortably. (Wear flats and bring a big enough bag to hold your goodies.)

5 - Have a beer or water first. (Before you start eating grab a beer and if you don't drink beer grab a water, you will need it.)

Next month, Kelly and I will be attending Choice Streets --- the sister foodie event of Choice Eats. It is also a Village Voice event. This time around we'll be tasting foods from 25 of New York City's favorite and highly sought-after food trucks. Tickets are still available for Choice Streets if you live in New York and are interested in going.

Tameeka Time Moderates! Tonight!

Tonight I will be moderating a live web based art show.
The show is called CortesNyc's Art Studio Live. I talked about it in one of my previous blog posts. Basically Art Studio Live is an extension of Cortes' popular youtube channel. On this show he draws live, answers questions, gives away prizes and I moderate the chat room and operate the different cameras. The show is all web based. You can join the chat room via your computer, your smart phones, or your tablet devices. All you have to do is go to: livestream.com - sign in with your facebook account - search "CortesNyc" and you'll be directed to the show's page. Here's a direct link to tonight's show so you can skip a few steps but it's really simple to join us.

This week we'll have a special guest on the show and a theme! The theme is Wizard of Oz. I will be dressing in costume for tonight's episode. And, the special guest is one of my favorite artists. Her name is Paigey and I've spoken of her a few times on tameekatime.com and interviewed her a few years ago. If you like what you see join us TONIGHT AT 9:30 PM EST and find out what Cortes and Paigey are up to. Join the chat room, hang out with us, ask the artist questions, ask me questions, or just come to see the free art being drawn live!

I will be giving away a prize to whoever posts a picture to Tameeka Time's facebook fan page of themselves in a wizard themed costume/outfit. The winner will announced at the end of the live stream episode.

Beyonce Gives Birth To A Meme

I am a fan of Beyoncé. I've always been a fan of Beyoncé. I was looking forward to seeing her have the best Super Bowl halftime performance ever in the history of super bowl halftime performances and she did.

I just re-watched the full 15 minute performance and she was something fierce on stage. My favorite part of the performance was when she started dutty wining. And, I loved the way Kelly and Michelle (of Destiny's Child) joined Beyoncé on stage and sang Bootylicious.

A few weeks ago I wrote a post describing how and why Beyoncé was winning 2013 and how sexy her GQ promo pics were.

Myself and most of the internet were pretty impressed by how hot she looked after only giving birth to her daughter Blue Ivy a year ago. She looked trim, soft, and sexy in those GQ photos and that's why I was so surprised to see the gifs and photos of her 33 fierciest moments during the Super Bowl Halftime Show. There were certain angles where she looked very strong and defined.

Were we all hoodwinked by the GQ photos? This is not a good look after the lip-sync scandal following the 2013 presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. This whole situation reminds me of the popular meme: What You Think You Look Like vs What You Really Look Like

BuzzFeed's Fierce Moment post about Beyoncé did not come off as malicious. But things took a turn and the "Unflattering Beyonce Meme" was born. Beyoncé's publicist Yvette Noel-Schure contacted BuzzFeed asking them to please remove or replace a number of unflattering photos of Beyoncé. The team at BuzzFeed responded in the most fabulous way by creating a new post containing a screen grab of Yvette's email and listing the unflattering photos mentioned by Yvette.

The most popular of the bunch was this photo below.

Here's a few reinterpretations that cracked me up:

Justin Timberlake is Back!

The guy above standing in a wet t-shirt and a guitar on his back is Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake is a singer / actor who was apart of one of the biggest 90s boy bands in the US; Nsync. Justin left his boy band days behind since 2002 and has made a name for himself as a chart topping singer and as an actor.

Two of his songs that I consider my favorite are Rock Your Body and Sexy Back.

I respect him for taking time off from singing to try acting and actually becoming successful at it. He's not the best actor in the world but I did like him in The Social Network

This is going to be a great year for music, a few musicians that I love are releasing new albums, like The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Queens of the Stone Age

Yesterday Justin who is newly married tweeted about his new album cover and track list for The 20/20 Experience. I'm pretty pumped about it.

And if you haven't heard it already -- here's his first single off of the album called "Suit and Tie."

Pizza Time

Last weekend I headed to Tribeca for a two-hour pizza making class.
The class was held at the AOA Bar and Grill. A single class is priced at $80/session but I came across a living social deal so I ending paying $40 for the class.

The restaurant was spacious and the setup was adorable. I do plan on returning to AOA Bar and Grill for a glass of wine and pizza one night. Overall I enjoyed the class and the price was well worth it. The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that we didn't make pizzas.

We made calzones instead. I do wish we were told that at the beginning of the class or it would have been helpful for this to be displayed as a disclaimer on the restaurants main site.

We did learn all of the necessary steps needed to make a pizza such as making the dough, kneading the dough, stretching it, tossing it, and how to prepare it for the oven.

I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of my calzone and impressed that I was able to make dough from scratch. It's something I didn't think of ever doing. We learned how to make focaccia bread and garlic knots but we didn't put the garlic knots in the oven. Chef Robert Farley was adorable, very helpful, and gave anyone who needed special attention his time. There was a maximum of 30 attendees in the class and a lot of people came with friends or relatives so it was a friendly group of people to be around. I do see myself taking another cooking class. Maybe not another pizza (calzone) making class but I'm ready for another culinary experience. To view more photos from the pizza making class go to facebook and like my fan page

Freaky Friday - Part 2 (The Re-Up)

What is it with Friday's and these celebs being so "kray-kray"?

Last week I posted a photo of "rapper" Kanye West wearing what looked to be a homemade red ski-mask. Probably something his intern or his baby mama Kim Kardashian put together for him.

At first I threw all the shade at him for this but after checking weather.com and realizing that it was cold as hell in Paris .. I see that ski masks were necessary that day.

So I turned the shade down and stopped judging... but I did wonder why the ski-mask wasn't bedazzled.

Lo and behold, this morning the Internet starts spitting out photos of Kanye performing in Abu Dhabi wearing a blinged out face mask, a feather rabbit/bunny looking head gear, and a straight-jacket. I guess I have to get up on my high-fashion because oh hell.. what happened here?

I did call it with the blinged out face mask. But, I don't know if I'm happy that he followed through.

The straight-jacket is a gimmick done many a times but the blinged out face mask is new to me.

Someone posted a really bad video clip of Kanye at a concert in Abu Dhabi. You can watch it by clicking here if you like but it's long (13min),  very shaky, and he's ranting and using an auto tune device. In the words of Sweet Brown "ain't nobody got time for that."

Kanye may need to take a seat very soon or at least when his baby is born.

What a way to start off Black History Month.

ToThread or Not To Thread...that is the question

The other day I went to a threading salon that I've had an on-and-off relationship with for years.

I only go to threading salons to get my eyebrows shaped and cleaned up.
On Tuesday, I walked out of the salon with red, watery eyes. I looked a mess but my eyebrows were shaped pretty good. This threading salon I'm talking about is located a block away from where I work, the staff is very friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the service is great.

You may be thinking, "so why does she have an on-and-off relationship with this salon?"

It's a great question actually. I hate (yes I used the word hate) I hate the feeling of my eyebrows being threaded. I can deal with the one swipe pain of waxing. But threading is tedious and the threader always seems to want to take every little single hair from your brow area. When ever I find myself in a rush and need my brows shaped for an event I always run to this salon because they open early and close late.
But I'm writing this more to remind myself to stop going there and to share my thoughts on eyebrow threading. During my last threading session I simply wanted to cry like a baby. I also wanted to sob and scream out "STOP"!!  But I controlled my inner child and realized that I'm an adult. That would just be a ridiculous way of behaving.

So I took it. I took the pain and made a mental note (yet again) to stop going the threading route and just make time to get my brows waxed. nDon't get me wrong, I do understand the saying "with beauty comes pain" but holy cow it's painful. I will not step foot in a threading salon for a very long time.

What are your thoughts? Is it better to wax your eyebrows or is it better to thread them? Comment below. Let me know your thoughts. Share your threading/waxing stories.

After searching eyebrow threading videos on youtube this video is the best example of how I felt in the chair getting my brows threaded on Tuesday.
